arrondissements. Thus called the 1st arrondissement, 2nd
arrondissement, 10th
arrondissement etc. We have noted helpful information about each
district, with
local shopping in the way of grocery stores, pharmacies, postal offices,
dry cleaners,
etc., so that you are aware of the essential amenities, and also the
touristy things like
museums and notable landmarks and monuments located in that district.
Please note that all districts have
metro
stations [subway with map],
cafes and
restaurants can be
searched by arrondissement, pharmacies, epiceries [convenience
stores] and major
grocery stores [and other types of major department, appliance,
home improvement stores, etc. are noted]. We will note specific well
known stores or
tourist attractions by district.
All distances in France are measured
from 'kilometer zero' [the central point is a
plaque in the square in front of Notre
Dame Cathedral [in the 4th],
to calculate
the
distances to all cities and villages of France.
The layout of the Paris districts start from the center [the 1st
arrondissement] and
circle around each other clockwise [spiraling style] through the 20th
arrondissement.
The heart of fun and activities, and some of the most noted monuments are
located in
the 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th districts. Information details are noted in
each district.
About France postal codes: first two digits of the postal code [zip
code] indicate the
French département number. Paris is departement 75, and the last two
digits indicate
the Paris arrondissement. The postal code 75001 means Paris, 1st
arrondissement.
